Harvesting a Healthy Lifestyle

Michelle has been working hard growing Sunflowers over the
summer months.

Dig It! Garden Volunteer Michelle is able to combine her passion and knowledge about all things health-related in the volunteer work she does.

Michelle is very dedicated to the healthy lifestyle. She is part of a Nutrition Club in Helensville and has her own little garden at home that she maintains.

The large accessible gardens allow Michelle to contribute to the growing and harvesting of healthy organic food, that she hopes will make a small contribution in getting local communities healthy – all while putting her gardening skills to good use.

She explains that she takes pride in seeing tangible results of her hard work. “I get enjoyment out of it, seeing the veges growing. I love the result of growing food.” She is very involved in the whole process – from planting and tending the crops, to harvesting them and taking them home to cook yummy food with! “I just love nature, whole foods, and having my own veges so that I can eat them.”

Currently, Michelle is growing runner beans, cucumbers and courgette. She also enjoys tending her sunflowers which are growing tall. “They look pretty awesome actually.”
