Day 112 of 365 days in the community garden

Kale is the perfect winter crop - hardy and easy to grow, Red Russian kale (pictured above) is tasty and nutritious. You will just need a few plants in the garden, and leaves can harvested continuously. Harvest the outer most leaves, to encourage the young leaves in the middle to grow. Cut the leaf with a sharp knife or pair of scissors close to the main stem to maintain a healthy and productive plant - don't leave large stalks sticking out all over the plant because this can encourage disease entry into the plant.

"I like gardening - it's a place where I find myself when I need to lose myself." Alice Sebold
